Summer is Here

Time for travel, picnics, beach days and camping—and all of the waste associated with on-the-go food packing. Thank you Surfrider Foundation for this photo of the trash left on one section of beach this 4th of July. All of this trash, even when picked up, ends up polluting our environment. The solution is not just to pick up your trash, it’s to pack with reusable containers, wraps, bags, bottles, straws and utensils. No trash necessary!

Plastic-Free July
Last week California’s ban on single-use plastic bags would have gone into effect, but plastic bag manufacturers stepped in, delaying the ban until at least November 2016. Support organizations fighting against single-use plastic like Plastic Pollution Coalition, stay involved in your local and state environmental campaigns, and participate in programs that challenge us to reduce waste, like one of our favorites: Plastic-Free July—encouraging us to refuse single-use plastic for the entire month. This takes a little work, and the first step is to remember to bring waste-free products with you when you leave the house so you are not caught falling back on the convenience of disposables. Share your stories on our Facebook page.
